    Windows Update Error code 80070490

I am running Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 and my Windows Update has quit working. I get the error code 80070490.

I have tried Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64 Update Readiness Tool, MicrosoftFixit50202, MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.Run, MicrosoftFixit50123, .and but none of them worked. I ran the Control Panel troubleshooting tool for Windows Update and it said "Updates ran successfully" and told me to run Windows Update again. I did and still got the 80070490 error code.

I have 2 backups that I have tried. One is from March 20th and the other is April 30th of this year. I restored the April backup first and Windows Update didn't work with it either so I started over and restored the March 20th backup. Windows Update worked for a little while but then the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool tried to update and it took it a long time and Windows Update hasn't worked since.

I ran a test this morning and it told me that I had missing files and registry entries for Windows Update but I don't remember which test it was because I've ran so many.

I can't to a Windows installation repair because I have a retail version and it states that the version I am using is newer than the version I want to install. I can't uninstall Windows Service Pack 1 because it came as a package with Windows 7 and already installed with my system. I have also uninstalled the updates that were installed after the March 20th backup but that did not help either! I hate the thoughts of having to format and start over with over 200 updates PLUS reinstall everything. I have tried uploading the CBS.zip file 4 times and 3 different browsers time out each time and stop. Can someone help me with this?

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
