    Help in removing optional update

I keep windows 7 installed laptop as backup. Today I started it & ran windows update. Without looking into details, I chose all of them & installed them. But, one of them was optional update for atheros wifi adaptor. Now after rebooting, my wifi connection is gone, device manager doesn't recognise wifi adapter, & i can't roll back driver as adapter is not available at all. The windows update doesn't show any of the optional updates. Plz help

Can you not find it by searching (top right) in Installed Updates screen? Enter name like kbXXXXXXX only numbers don't find anything for me.

Installed Updates either from Windows Update window or Programs and features-Installed Updates

Hello Dr. Shreenivaas, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In addition, see if you may be able to uninstall the update using an option in the tutorial below. :)

Since it is a driver, is it listed in Programs and Features by chance along with the other programs?

Do you have a restore point that you could use to do a system restore with to undo the update installation?

I restored windows to the state before update, but problem persisted. I then freshly installed windows, but now both wifi & bluetooth adapters have disappeared & drivers didn't get installed. I don't know now what to do.

Are you able to download the drivers from Acer on another computer to copy over and install?

Could the wireless switch button on the laptop or Fn button be pressed accidentaly (if there is such feature)?

No button is not showing led indicator. I could not install drivers as the warning 'adapter is not found' comes.
A person on windows help forum had faced similar problem & he mentioned that these updates modify or corrupt bios. What's that? Sounds serious to me.
