    Windows Update: AMD SMBus

So, I checked for updates today on my Laptop, and I had an update that said Advanced Micro Devices, Inc - Other Hardware - AMD SMBus.

Below is the screenshot of the recently installed updates. Can anyone tell me what the AMD SMBus does and what the update does?

Wait a minute, you`re asking about an update after you installed it ?

Jesse, you are supposed to highlight an update, then click more information BEFORE you install an update, to see whether you need the update or not.

Now it`s too late, you already installed it.

Just google the update number, it should tell you what it`s for.

But ah ha, there is no number, so now just google the entire term.

Jesse, NEVER install an update without knowing what it is and only after you determine if you even need it.

Well, I assumed it was recommended. It has to do with my system, since I have AMD graphics. I googled AMD SMBus, but nothing really gave me much detail.

Okay. I read what it was on Wikipedia. But, still, it didn't make much sense.

It's part of your chipset drivers, it's not very common to get that through Windows update but I would guess it was necessary.

You can right click on it and view details, then you should get a link for more info.

Okay. Why isn't it very common to get it through Windows update, if you don't mind me asking?

When I clicked more info, this is what it pulled up.

There's another person on EF that got the same thing, did you by chance reserve the W10 upgrade?

Because it's a base driver that is usually just installed when installing Windows or shortly thereafter.
