    Checking for updates

This is only a minor thing but I noticed tonight that under security updates the 'last check for updates' was on Thursday 4th June over two days ago. Normally the computer checks for updates every 24 hours. Tonight when I switched on this did not happen. I left the computer idle for an hour and no change. I double checked my settings were still 'check for updates but let me choose when to download/install them'. So it seems strange tonight this did not occur, it only said check for updates which I did manually and it successfully cycled and advised no new updates are available (I am fully updated). But why the need to manually kick it off? maybe a temporary glitch here. The date stamp is now tonight so I will wait 24 hours to test this again but wondered if others are seeing the same. I wonder if the recent windows 10 related updates are to blame - I literally install everything with nothing hidden and I have been getting notifications regarding the windows 10 update. I don't mind the tray icon being there at all, I just plan to ignore it but I hope it's not blocking the auto update check I am used to.

    Cheers, Wayne

Windows Update won't check for updates if the system is under significant load at the time (unless manually started). Check the time set for install of updates -- you can then try checking the Event logs for an hour either side to see if there was anything happening at that time (the actual update time is randomised slightly to reduce server load).

I've seen this happen a few times over the years also. Never thought much of it as it always worked in the following time periods. To be honest, I don't check things in update until Tuesday to make sure the settings haven't been altered before Patch Tuesday.

Cheers guys, must of just been a one off or system busy as Noel mentioned. I just booted and it was back to normal checking for updates automatically within a couple minutes of logging in!
