Some clarification on the "free" Win 10 upgrade please

I have a friend who bought a retail Win 7 Home Premium "upgrade", and used it to go to Win 7 from XP a couple of years back.

He asked me if he qualified for the free Win 10 upgrade, and I said yes (but then I'd not seen anything that says one way or the other regarding Win 7 upgrades...

So, can somebody point me to a resource that says yes or no?

According to Microsoft the only requirements to upgrade to Windows 10 are:

The only requirements are that a) your device is compatible, and b) you’re running genuine Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 8.1 (Update).

Diff.between "available" and "free" physical memory?
When I look into the "Performance" tab of my TaskManager then there are the following values: Total: 4014 Cached: 1299 Available: 2697 Free: 1532 Hmm, What is the difference between available and free space? Shouldn't this be the same?

Install time difference between "Upgrade" and "Custom"
Is the time to "Upgrade from vista to 7 supposed to be wayyy longer then it would to do jsut a clean install? (For example, hanging at 18% for a while while installing during upgrade) (posting this since i cant get any replies to a previous topic)
