Error Code 8000FFFF and Windows 7 Update

Days and Days of trying to repair this. This: Windows will not update. Periodic messages that my Windows is not genuine. One entire day of failed installation of clean install with Windows 7 USB stick provided by Dell. A few hours with a very sweet techie, who did the most basic stuff. I have run I think everything I could find on the internet. Nothing has worked. I've not tried the clean install in 2 days; at this point I don't want to give up on the repair, now that I've invested half my life in it. Help?!

I will post the other test results (already run, but I didn't understand the posting instructions) tomorrow.

Commonly this error is caused by moving the Windows partition.
On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x1AD' to display the error text.
    Error: 0x1AD
... although I also see references to MDAC in a Google search.
The error is extremely rare, and there are no currently-known solutions, but let's do some basic checks first...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

    Also...

    Open Event Viewer

click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.

Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...

    Save the file as Appevt.evtx

    Repeat for the System log

then zip both, and upload them.

Error Code 8000FFFF, Can't Update, Can't Clean Install

I am attaching the requested materials (I trust). I cannot tell, based on the instructions, if I am supposed to also put the attachments in the message.

In any event, thank you for getting back to me so rapidly. I had also googled that odd slui.exe message. I hope there is something in all this to give a clue. Thank you!

Here's the error from the CBS.log

I'll post a fix protocol for that a bit later...

However, it looks to me as if you have a corrupt User Profile for Mzz

Please create a new Admin User account, and then reboot to the new account
Does this help your other problems?

Once in the new account, please post another set of Event log files after restarting the computer and getting back into the new account.

i did try a new Admin User account, but that was unavailing.

I thereafter-- and how I now regret this-- called Microsoft support to speak to them about the Update issue, again thinking that a clean installation was the easiest/fastest. There followed, for the next 40 hours, a stream of "Level 2 Technical support" people who tried repairs and reinstallations. Each of the FOUR!! times, it was some bizarre partial installation. The first repair resulted in my not being able to install any software, at all, on the computer. I now have something of an installation, but with the remnants of the prior installation left behind.

I thank you for having taken the time to respond so rapidly in the first instance. I have been appropriately tortured for going off on my tangent. I have learned my lesson the usual hard way. Again, I thank you most sincerely.

    Oh dear

sounds to me like it's time to back up your data to external media and do a system recovery, or a clean install
