How can I install correct version of Win7 over a copy?

    Hi Guys,

I fell from grace when my computer got a really bad virus and had Win7 re-installed, and hastily. Problem was, I didn't check the credentials of the guys wj¡ho installed it, and it turns out it's a pirated copy.

I really want to rectify this, as I don't ever inrtend to install Win8 or 10, and want to keep Win 7 Professional probably for ever. I'm down with the system, like it, love it and it suits me fine, the only bug-bear is that it's not correct or proper.

Wanting to rectify this, having bought a legit package of Win7 Professional, can I just install it on top of the one I have and get to keep all the files? Of does it need to start with a clean install?
    Regards

Let's have a look at what you've got at present - it will affect any advice we give...

Please followthis tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on theCopy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup filesfor some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to yourresponse.

Please also statethe Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one)on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOTquote the Key on the sticker!

I think this is the report?...

    Dear NoelDP,

Thankyou for you, Noel, appreciate it very much.

Ok, I got this result, ...

there is no version or state sticker on the back, tho', the original windows came in Spanish, as I live in a Latin American country, and it was the Home version, which I hated. Now it's a pro version, in English, which I love, just that I'm concerend, as I do want to keep this computer and the OS, win8 etc don't impress me.

I image b'up regulary with a Toshiba carnivore, also my docs etc. ....

The installed OEM_SLP Key is NOT an upgrade Key - and the current install must be classed as counterfeit. The Product Key is one from an HP machine, while yours is a Toshiba.
Activation is failing because of a mismatch between the inbuilt license, the Key and the certificates installed with the OS.

I don't see any signs of an Activation Exploit present - so you may be lucky.

    Try this...

You need to change the Product Key to the one from your new purchase, using the Change ProductKey link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need toactivate by phone.

PLEASE - whether it works or not, post a new MGADiag report, as there are a lot of fakes out there, and we see all to many people lose their money (and other things) purchasing software 'licenses' from dealers who run away a week later!
