Installing the free Windows 10 to a VM?

    Installing the free Windows 10 to a VM?


    When the free Windows 10 gets here (reserved a copy), can I install it to a VM or will it have to be installed in place of my Windows 7 install, or dual boot and have both? I'm not getting rid of 7 any time soon.

    I'm looking at installing the technical preview to a VM but haven't had the time.

    Theoretically, the free Windows 10 license is an Upgrade only, and cannot be used to clean-install.

I am having trouble installing Windows to my external harddrive. I have more than enough space (~350GB) free, but the Windows 7 installer DVD will not let me install to this space. I need to install to this harddrive because the HDD that came with the computer is dead. Can you help me?
