    Hi,
On a good day the update should integrate the existing drives/ files... into win-10
On a bad day no telling I believe in murphy's law = if it can go wrong it will :)

Any exterior drives I would disconnect to be safe.
I'll assume the ssd is the qualifying os to be upgraded so it needs to be connected obviously but use a reliable system image to back it up in case you change your mind and want to roll back to 7.

Recommended software would be Macrium Reflect Free Edition. There's a tutorial on it on this web site.

    Imaging with free Macrium

It makes a "system image" file that you can later "restore" to a hard drive, also using Macrium.

You can think of a system image as an exact replica of one or more partitions on your hard drive---typically the C partition. You choose which partitions. The system image file includes EVERYTHING on that partition--Windows, licensing information, installed programs, pictures of your cat, and whatever else is on it. The system image file isn't of much use UNTIL it is formally restored, which is done by booting from a rescue disk made from within Macrium. If the rescue disk won't boot, you can't restore and are dead in the water. When that one file is successfully restored, you will then have a fully bootable hard drive in the same state as of the time you made the system image--yesterday, last week, last month, or whenever you made it.

Success rate high, but not infallible. You need to know what you will do if it fails.

If you want to restore whatever is on the mechanical drives, you'd have to make images of them and later restore them.

Macrium doesn't work "automatically". You operate it manually.

If you want to restore Windows, you would have to restore any partition that contains any Windows file. On some PCs, that would be C only. On other PCs, it would be C and System Reserved. I have no idea of how you have partitioned your drives or the details of your Windows configuration, so I can't say what partitions you personally would need to image to restore Windows.

I have not heard of any issues regarding Macrium and Windows 10. If you want to be able to restore a Windows 10 installation, you would need to make images of the appropriate Windows 10 partitions, just as you would with Windows 7 or 8.

As far as I know, you don't have to rely on that reservation process or notification icon. You should be able to just download the Windows 10 ISO, put it on a bootable DVD or USB stick, and install from that.

For more details, go to the Windows 10 forum.

As I said, consult the Windows 10 forum.
