1st attempt to install NF 3.5

    Roy,

I sense you are getting closer to the solution. I attempted the NF 3.5 install and got an error saying I needed to turn the Windows features on or off (see 1st attachment).

Since the top check box was filled in blue and the note at the top of the window said that a filled box indicated that only part of the feature was turned on, I chose to check both of the 2 lower level boxes to get the check mark in the top box, which I assume turned the Windows Features on. I proceeded and received an error. The 2nd attachment shows the Windows Features all checked and the error I got after it had run for a while. I wanted to go back to verify this was exactly what I had done and I was told I needed to reboot, which I did. After the reboot it attempted to reconfigure Windows Updates which failed and then it backed out. This occurred too quickly for me to catch it.

I made the assumption that Windows Features needed to be turned on since my understanding of NF is that it is an integral part of all versions of Windows above Windows 7. If you disagree with my decision, I'm happy to turn Windows Features off and try it again, let me know your thoughts.

    Just being nosy.

Is it possible, if one just installed .NET Framework 4.6.1 the problem would be fixed?
I have two Windows 7 Pro/64. One a old build and one a new build. Windows 7 updates does not offer .NET Framework 4.6.2 on either computer.

I'm not understanding why one needs 4.6.2 if Windows 7 updates does not offer it.

The voice of inexperience, accept my apologies

    Hi Layback Bear,

You obviously know far more details than me but MS shows downloads for .Net Framework 4.6.1 as well as 4.6.2 on the Windows 7 SP1 platform. You are over my head when you say one of your W7 Pro machines is an old and one is a new build, enlighten me, if you would. My machine is the Home Premium version, if that would make any difference.

Intuit is specific about needing .NET Framework 4.5.2 but one would naturally assume 4.6.? should work. I even attempted the 4.6.2 install but it failed too.

The computer in (My System Specs) is about 2 year old.

I just built another one a few days ago.

I don't believe that .NET Framework is specific to which Windows 7 you have installed.
Home Premium or Pro should use the same .NET

    AAAAAAAAAAArgh,
lost me post from yesterday when the forum went down.

can you do the following, in the order below

    from this tutorial,
Services - Restore Default Services in Windows 7
please read it first for some background, they will just reset the defaults
    select these 3 items

    certificate propagation
    credential manager
    Windows module installer

    DO NOT REBOOT YET

Go back to features option again
    turn OFF IIS entries

    reset your internet options
    controlpanel >> internet options >> advanced >> restore(bottom right)

    REBOOT NOW

    try NF 3.5.

Do you have a repair disk??
(if not i can get 1)

    Roy

    NF 3.5 issue

    Torchwood,

Glad to hear from you again. I hate when stuff goes down and you lose work! Welcome back.

I did as you suggested and 2 of the 3 services appeared to work, the Windows Module Installer failed with an error, shown in the first attachment. I then closed everything to see if I could get it to merge and I could not. I then rebooted my machine to see if that would work, realizing you had said NOT TO REBOOT YET but I couldn't get the last service to merge. Unfortunately that did not work, I still get the error that is attached to this note.

Should I turn off IIS and reset internet options and reboot again to get the first 2 services to take? I'm at a bit of a loss to know what to do.

As for a repair disk, I've turned my office upside down and found a set of recovery disks that are for this machine, is that what you want? Of course I found recovery disks for earlier machines, XP and a MultiMedia version that I no long have but could not locate something that I had labeled repair disk. I'm sorry. How would you get that stuff to me?

As for your comment about other Intuit users seeming to be experiencing problems with .NET Framework 4.5.2 and W10, I'm not surprised. I personally am not pleased with the lack of knowledge from their support group that has put me in the predicament I'm in right now, just a comment.
