    Windows Update error 8024402C

    Hello,

My friend has been having a remarkable problem with updating his device.
He has been unable to install Windows updates since 2012 as I can see.
Windows updates always gives him error 8024402C

We have tried A LOT, but nothing worked so far:

We tried this, from the official Windows site:
Windows Update error 8024402C - Windows Help

We tried by disabling antivirus and firewalls.
We tried editing the registry keys AUoptions et cetera (the ones for the Windows update settings)
We tried the Windows-updates-reset tool from this forums (by Brink)
    We did some virus scans.
We tried the Microsoft Fixit tool.
    <and some other things>

What we haven't tried yet is messing with internet/LAN options, but I'd like to have more information/feedback on that before we start.

We'd like to thank anyone who can help us out for their time and effort.

Ok, we have followed the steps.
Step 1: The installation of that one Hotfix ended succesfully, but it did not fix the error.

Step 2: The SFC scan told us there were some corrupted files that could not be repaired. See details in the CBS.log I have attached.

Step 3 you probably already know: Windows Update error 8024402C (or 0x8024402C)

Step 4 is the log file itself.

Step 5... Well, this topic :)

Thank you for your reply, by the way!

I'm afraid this topic has been kept in the dark for quite a while.
The issue still exists and me and my friend currently have no idea what to do. We are awaiting further feedback...

I'll post a fix protocol later.

We're still waiting for the CheckSUR/SURT results?

    I've uploaded a file - to8aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\to8aa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\to8aa
    or
    DIR E:\to8aa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\to8aa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

    Thank you for the reply.

By the the CheckSUR/SURT results, you mean step 1 of the Windows Update Posting Instructions ? We ran that, it installed that little hotfix update KB947821 without issue, but that did not resolve the error message. I think we missed a part there? It is an actual tool that has to be run, after installing?
Since it's my friend who is having the issues and not me, we can only give you further feedback this evening, as he's at work right now.

No - the 'Update' is the tool

Simply run the tool/update again, and thn post the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.Persist.log files.

He didn't have time to use your to8aa.zip yet, sorry for that. He did run the SUR tool again and gave me the logs of it.

    - this implies that the chances are that no updates have been installed for at least 2 years

I'll post some instructions to correct these errors when I can get to them - hopefully tomorrow.
