This appears to be the critical error...

Please open an Elevated COmmand Prompt, and run the following command -

RD C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\d1fa0dec46853ced2c3e446a4e81c538 /S

then do a new Check for Updates and see what happens.

Not much, because:

C:\Windows\system32>RD C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\d1fa0dec46853ced2c3e446a4e81c538 /S
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\d1fa0dec46853ced2c3e446a4e81c538, Are you sure (Y/N)? y

...which is roughly what the error was telling us
I'll have to try and find the time to go through the logs again. - back when I do!

So I downloaded
http://au.download.windowsupdate.com...f4b3df3eb3.exe

and created C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\d1fa0dec46853ced2c3e446a4e81c538\6b99e1e5d80fd534553accdee9 72f7f4b3df3eb3

and dropped the file in it (as well as in the d1fa... folder, just in case.)

Check for Updates found 5 important and 1 optional; I attempted install of just the oldest Important (the same SP1).

That failed quickly, error 80246007. (The BITS service is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and is started.)

Also, the folder I created above was gone.

Ran SURT.

Checked for updates again, ran install of oldest update again. Gradually downloaded from ~88% to 99%, sat there a good while, moved on to Preparing to Install... Installing... still making progress... (I'll keep you posted!)

It worked! And the following installation of the rest of the updates worked! All updates successfully completed!

Anything else to check before we call it good?

(Also, any thoughts on the appropriate forum for the network/driver/hardware/OS issue I mentioned previously, and which has gotten no response whatsoever in the General forum?)

Question Noel.

Would a MGADiag report show anything of interest?

Don't think so - I can see where you're coming from on that - but installing SP1 would have either fixed or made any problem there obvious.

Not much to see in CheckSUR.log -- see below -- so I've attached CheckSUR.persist.log.
