    Windows Update Error with KB2952664

    Hi,

Yesterday I decided that I want to upgrade my Windows 7 ultimate x64 to Windows 10. I never got the "Get windows 10" icon in my taskbar and was told I need to have Windows 7 SP1 installed, which I do have. I was also told that I would need the KB2952644 and KB3035583 updates. I tried downloading KB2952644 through windows update, but after my pc restarts to install the update, it says "Failure configuring windows, reverting changes" and I don't even see KB3035583 in windows update. I also tried manually updating by downloading it from here ( windows6.1-kb2952664-v10-x64_6cb844c61ff4a77098ee895e0f2904d494ff5d24.msu ) but it also gives me an error on installation. (Update could not be installed). I have never done any updates to windows since I installed it in 2011. Are there earlier updates I need to install first to be able to install these ones and also Windows 10?

I looked for a manual download of Windows 10 online and used this : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 and now it is downloading windows 10, but I have a few questions.

    • Will I need to insert a key to upgrade to windows 10? (I have a genuine version of windows, but I have lost my key. Is there a way I can find it on my computer?)

    • Will the upgrade even work since I didn't "reserve" my upgrade because I didn't get the ' Get Windows 10' icon in my taskbar?

    • Will I be able to revert back to Windows 7 without issues, should something go wrong? (I have made a system image backup and a restore point).

I have also attached the CBS/log folder. Apologies if the post isn't clear, I'll update it with further info if needed. Thank you for your time.

You need to install ALL windows updates.
You can recover your Key using the following tool - ProduKey - Recover lost product key (CD-Key) of Windows/MS-Office/SQL Server (always assuming it's a genuine Key!)

As soon as you can get KB2952644 and KB3035583 to install, you'll be able to reserve your upgrade.

The errors in the CBSPersist file are interesting...
we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

    Hi NoelDP,

Thank you for your reply. I kept having errors with all types of updates through Windows Update on Windows 7 so I decided to go through with the update to Windows 10 (manual download from the link in my original post) and I'm glad to say that everything went very smoothly. Had no troubles during installation and my Windows automatically got upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, didn't need to add the key myself. I am now busy installing updates on Windows 10 without issues, quite happy with it so far.

Thanks again for the help anyway and I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening.
