Windows Updates will run forever and svchost

    Hello,

I have a freshly installed (NOT YET ACTIVATED, i want to try it before buying) Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64.
The first thing i noticed was, that there is a process "svchost" which takes 25% CPU load (That's 100% for the first core) and 1,4GB RAM. What can cause this?

The other problem i encountered was, that i can't install Windows Update, .Net Framework 4.0 or "WinFuture Update Packs". Generally, have the feeling that it's anything deeper in Windows.

Can anyone help me on that problem?

    Welcome to our forum styler2go.

Where did you get your copy of Windows 7 Ultimate?

Do you have the proper COA key to activate Windows 7?

    Hello,

as i said, i don't have any key yet. The ISO file is the official Microsoft ISO image.
Windows is not activated. I am just considering to buy it.

Is it a problem to download updates without activating/buying it first?

    Greetings,

Technically, it's a breach of the licensing terms - but MS turns a blind eye to it as a rule.
Bear in mind that Win10 is cheaper - at least for the initial purchase - and a more up-to-date OS.

What I'm asking is; where did you get your official Windows 7 Ultimate ISO.

The reason I ask is their are some places that claim to have a official ISO and they are not. If they are not you will have all kinds of problems.

A bad ISO will keep you in problems until you are collecting Social Security and maybe longer.

Exacly the same problem, original Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit fresh install on Dell N5010. Activated and updated till SP1. After that, same symptoms with svchost and endless checking for updates without any result.

    Help help help!

I had the update search running for around 8 hours and then it finally gave a result (130 updates).

Maybe just let it run through the night and check back when you wake up!
