WINDOWS UPDATE does not download update files

I just did a FRESH install of WIN7 on a new partition on my hard drive which has 2 other partitions with separate systems. I am having difficulties getting the WINDOWS UPDATE to work correctly to bring this FRESH install current. Attached is my CBS log that is compressed.

I already downloaded the "SYSTEM UPDATE READINESS" tool: Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x86. It is currently running & searching for updates which I doubt will find any if nothing has been downloaded. I have also downloaded : "MS Fix It" http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683 in aggressive mode. I have not tried this yet. I am waiting for the READINESS tool to complete its job.

Is there anything in my CBS log that indicates problems? What else should I try?

    Appreciate any assistance

I don't see the log attached, can you try re-attaching it?

FOLLOW UP: the message displayed when attempting to download is "Downloading 3 updates 0Kb total 0% complete". As a test I chose 3 optional updates: KB2732059, KB2750841, & KB2773072.

I then deselected the above & tried an IMPORTANT update KB2786081. SAME result.

    ADDITIONAL observations

It appears if I delete the contents of the SOFTWARE DISTRO folder I can get the updates to download. However, if I choose a subset of updates they will download, but when I go to choose another subset of updates after completion of the 1st subset & reboot the UPDATE will not download the next subset. I have to delete the contents of the SOFTWARE DISTRO every time in order to update. This means enduring the long pause while WINDOWS checks for updates.

I also tried MICROSOFT FIX IT 50202 (aggressive mode). It pretty much did the same as deleting the entire contents of SOFTWARE DISTRO. Even so the behavior is still the same. I cannot do updates in subsets. I could do all of them at once, but those that FAIL I would have to PURGE & REPEAT.

So is there an update on WINDOWS UPDATE to download?

Just to be clear my network connection IS WORKING! Is it possible that the UPDATE utility stops recognizing the connection after the 1st subset download??

You appear to have a problem with the Windows Update Agent.
Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your OneDrive Public folder so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

I tried Windows6.1=kb947821-v34-x86 which I assume is the System Readiness Tool. Attached are the 2 CheckSUR logs. They do not appear to indicate anything wrong.

BTW: my update agent is windows update agent 7.6.7600.320 which was installed by update kb976902 on 11/20/2010. Is that current or is there a better version I should load up?

    NEW observations

I selected to install all of the optional updates. The update utility dialog box states:
"Downloading 43 updates (0 KB total, 0^ complete)".

I then launched Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x86 & the dialog box indicates that this installer is searching for updates already on the computer. The search grinds on for 30+ minutes before a pop-up dialog box asks to install the HOTFIX. At the same instant in time the update utility indicates that it is downloading 117.6 MB & proceeds to download all of the files. This behavior is repeatable. I did it 3X over.

This must indicate something, but I am not equipped to debug it. What else can be done?
