    Illegal OS after 4-5years ?

Hi to all members, this is my first posting & am average PC know how user so am not up with all technical terms !
My laptop is approximately 5-6yr. old ( HP Pavillion dv6 - 1215ax, 4gb ram, 175gb hd ) original came with os Vista Home Premium already installed . Twelve months after purchasing I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x 64bit & have been using this os for the past 4yrs , formatting approximately every year & reinstalling using the same activation code, no problems until now. After reinstalling 7Ultimate an error ( bottom right hand corner of monitor ) indicating the os was an illegal copy ? I contacted Microsoft who advised me to purchase a legal copy & code !
Firstly why after 4-5yrs using the same rego code is this possible, & secondly being an aged pensioner why should I have to purchase another os code etc. to replace what has been working for a number of years ?
Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated,
      My Computer

    Hi Shawn.
Not sure whether I've completed your directions correctly as after I hit the Select All button which highlighted all info, I then hit the # button which removed the darkened area over the info ! As there was no Submit New Thread button I hit the Next Thread button ( Hope you received applicable info required ).
    Cheers Dennis.

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.

Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it toyou was not entitled to do so.

You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

    Please read thefollowing posts.... .................................

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment formanufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

    Nothing has changed !

    Hi NoelDP,
Sorry not to get back sooner. I have since, contacted & reported the counterfeit OS copy to Microsoft as suggested, so will now have to wait for a reply. Will advise you when a decision is made.
    Thanks again.

    Illegal OS Copy !

    Hi NoelDP,
Just thought I would like to advise, today 11Sept. (2months down the track since applying for Illegal copy replacement, which I might add I didn't hold much of a chance for) a 'Microsoft' package was hand delivered containing both 32 & 64bit OS discs, rego & product Key etc (hope this isn't an Illegal Copy). B-----dy big surprise to me !
Now all that I have to do is work out the right way to get rid of all existing OS and replace with new one supplied. The laptop originally was purchased from 'GraysonLine' which had Vista Home Premium already installed & I just installed the OS7 over the top (Vista is probably still hiding somewhere on the PC ?) Maybe someone has the correct way to uninstall & install the new OS !

I would sincerely like to thank all member suggestions and advice, especially 'NoelDP', thanks mate, Much Appreciated.
      My Computer
