Anyone had any problems with these? Or do they seem safe?

I never install any updates until at least the weekend, usually the following Monday or Tuesday, and then it's in accordance with the recommendations from Susan Bradley at Windows Secrets and Woody Leonhard at Ask Woody, plus the good folk here of course!

I wish I could be as disciplined. I dread patch Tuesday and just want it out of the way. I know it's a necessity for security etc - Anyway I just finished installing them, got 19 on one machine and 23 on another. All seems normal. The only thing that's a slight annoyance nowadays is not seeing the task bar prompt for new updates being available ballooning into view. I have to go into windows update to see them. It still auto checks every 24 hours as it's supposed to, just no prompt. Or maybe I don't give it enough time but I don't think that's the case. I guess the windows 10 task bar prompt has bludgeoned that! Not that I'll ever update but I couldn't be bothered to jump through hoops to stifle it.

What I suspect is happening is that your computer is doing an automatic search for updates when you switch it on, but on patch day the updates aren't released until later so nothing appears. Then you eventually do a manual search after they've been released, and so they appear. I always switch my machines off at night or when I've finished with them for the day including if I'm going out, and given that I'm in the UK so it's late afternoon/evening before the updates are released anyway I don't tend to get offered them until I switch on the next morning. I have two machines and always test the updates on the one I use least and leave it for 24 hours before I install them on the other one.

Quite apart from not installing problem updates, the need to avoid the Windows 10 marketing updates is in itself an excellent reason for taking advice on the updates before installing them.
