    continually checking for updates....

    Yesterday l was doing some maintanance on my old laptop which had not been updated since around the end of July.

    prior to that it was updating fine, however l left it for a good hour and it was still checking for updates.. l did run the troubleshooter which mentioned some issues with service registrations, l ended up restoring the laptop to default (to be honest it needed it and l was only planning on giving it to my parents anyways).

    after resetting l managed to get 14/15 updates down (last one was .net framework 4) and not its annoyingly just continually checking for updates again (left it for 4 hours), lve run the tools to reset windows update, run the troubleshooter, cleaned with ccleaner and everything else l can think of as lm not getting any error codes its kind of stumped me..

    was just wondering if anyone else had any ideas l havent thought of yet or if there was a list of updates that caused this because all lve managed to download is 13 or so security updates, SP1 and maybe a few .net packages before this update loop, l did try autopatcher before reinstalling but it stopped on the first update hence why l reinstalled (it worked better on my new laptop lol).

    one thing l did notice is a constant use of over a gig on a svchost instance (which was normal when updating on my old laptop as when it finished the memory usage went down but now its pretty constant).

    Hi,
    Net framework updates are large if checking seems stalled many have said it's mainly because some are already installing so be patient.

    Set it not to sleep and try leaving it for 24 hours.

    Booted up, the trusted installer process has run... not touched the laptop just letting whatever process run svchost is doing something haven't seen the process that usually runs when .net installs, that said I did turn off and reboot a couple of times since last night.

    I also ran process explorer, the sub process off the threads tab that seems to be eating memory and maxing the CPU seems to be the wuauserv service which I've now let run for another good few hours from cold boot, no idea what its updating.

    =========

    Edit: finally showing updates, its been preparing to install for the last couple of hours.
