    Stuck at "checking for updates"

This is an Acer netbook that I just installed a SSD into. Windows 7 64bit is activated.
After install I tried to get the latest updates and it just sits there checking, left it alone for an hour. I don't get any error messages at all. Ran SURT (It also searches for updates and gets stuck). I've also tried the fixes that I've seen here: Windows Update - Reset[3]=Windows Updates

Set the laptop not to sleep.
Manually start the check for updates.
Leave the laptop alone for 24 hours.

    I'll try that this weekend.

Left the Acer laptop alone and it was stuck, tried the Dell laptop and it was also stuck. I then tried wired instead of wireless and the Dell found and installed the updates. The Acer is still stuck.

Maybe the amount of updates after a clean install causes Windows Update to hang?

M$ updates & upgrades to win 10 have been extremely slow downloading recently. Many posts about update hanging when all that is required is to wait longer.

A web search about updates led me find warnings about an update that will stop computers updating.
Another update I had stopped my Flight Sim from working - the FS community was buzzing with it so I deleted it & hid it so I'd not get it again.

You can only hide a version of an update. If a new version of that same update is issued, then it will show up in your list of updates.

I tried installing updates again last night. Set the computer not to sleep and left it alone. It found 200 updates after 30 minutes of "searching".

"You can only hide a version of an update. If a new version of that same update is issued, then it will show up in your list of updates." Right click any update & go to Hide Update & you will never see it again.

There will not be a new version of the update that disrupted Flight Sim.
