    Update issues really need a S O S

Will update my profile ASAP as I just got laptop running again!

I have Win 7 home prem. 32 bit. This is a factory update Vista from HP. (they sent disks)

I'm not too tech so be easy on me as I've had few issues. Yesterday I did updates and kept having blue screen/shut downs and reboots automatically. So I tried a recovery... reboot and F 11. This strangley brought me back to Vista. I then had to re-run disks Upgrade manager. To bring me back to Win 7. I tried basic updates from like 2009 and blue screens again! Did a restore and now I'm stuck not having any update resources in the last 5 years. Any ideas here? Thanks!!!

I don't know if this is pertinent, but when I was filtering out Win 10 Upgrade/updates I found that ALL of my Update History disappeared ... even Hidden Updates were gone, and the Update main window says no updates were EVER installed. The only good thing is that Installed Updates DOES show them. How are we supposed to manage and OS this way? What the hell is M$ doing?! - Vet

The Update History is pretty irrelevant, really - it's merely a log of attempted/successful WU installs.
It is ALWAYS reset when the SoftwareDownload folder contents are cleared - which can happen either manually (by renaming/deleting the folder to remove corruption) or sometimes automatically, when Windows Update installs a new WU Agent. There have been a couple such lately which may have done this.

In short, there's no real need to the WU History list, except possibly the part that deals with the last one or two sets of attempted installs.
