    New results files

Sorry for the delay. Here are the new files as requested.

I found out how to factory reset my laptop (there's a button for this express purpose) ... so that's an option as well (although not a great one).

    Thanks again!!

SFCFix looks like it did the job, at least!
The SFC scan reveals that it fixed two errors, but failed on another two...
    Code:
    	Line 23432: 2015-10-25 10:52:36, Info CSI 0000036d [SR] Repairing 4 components
Line 23433: 2015-10-25 10:52:36, Info CSI 0000036e [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
    	Line 23436: 2015-10-25 10:52:36, Info CSI 00000370 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"ntfs.sys.mui" of Microsoft-Windows-NTFS.Resources, Version = 6.1.7600.16385, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture = [l:10{5}]"en-US", VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
Line 23437: 2015-10-25 10:52:36, Info CSI 00000371 [SR] Cannot verify component files for Microsoft.VC90.MFCLOC, Version = 9.0.30729.4148, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope neutral, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b}, Type = [l:10{5}]"win32", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest is damaged (FALSE)
...and we're down to a much more reasonable 148 POQs, and SFC terminated properly, as well!

Please try running the SURT tool again, and post the new CheckSUR.log file with luck it'll complete this time and we can see what other damage there is left to repair.

    CheckSUR.log results

Well it ran this time! I've attached the log. Let me know what else you think could help.

    Here we go...
    I've uploaded a file - sgbab.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder sgbab in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

It took a while to figure out how copy the manifest files (I had to change ownership on the directory where the manifest files were located) and then it took a while for the CheckSUR to run ... but it's looking better (I think). Here are the results.

    Thanks again!

Yup - CheckSUR has done the necessary job, leaving us with only these errors...
    Code:
    Checking Component Store
    (f)	CSI Payload File Missing	0x00000000	msvcp80.dll	x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_none_d08d7da0442a985d
    (f)	CSI Payload File Missing	0x00000000	msvcm80.dll	x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_none_d08d7da0442a985d
    (f)	CSI Payload File Missing	0x00000000	MFC90CHS.DLL	x86_microsoft.vc90.mfcloc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.4148_none_4973eb1d754a9dc9
Now please run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log - and we'll see what else needs fixing at the same time.

    Definitely getting closer

In order to run SFC again i had to reboot my laptop. Apparently some updates had been downloaded (which hasn't happened in a long time).

I then ran SFC and zipped the results. Unfortunately the file is too big to attach (even zipped). I've put it in Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6nqfbiqr1k6qtft/CBS.zip?dl=0

    Thanks (yet) again.

    I've uploaded a file - sgbac.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\sgbac
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\sgbac
    or
    DIR E:\sgbac

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\sgbac <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply
