    sgbac.zip fails antivirus scan

ARGH! I didn't receive an email notifying me that a reply had been posted so I haven't checked the forum and now I see that you posted a week ago! I'm very sorry for the delay.

I downloaded sgbac.zip but the antivirus scan failed. Should I override that scan or do you think there's a problem with the file? I'm using MS Security Essentials.

I'll check back more frequently from now on.

    Thanks,
    Steve

P.S. DISREGARD THIS POST ... I downloaded the file to a different computer and it scanned fine. I'm going to proceed and will post results shortly.

This sort of 'creeping error' syndrome can be of concern if it continues, as it could mean that we're either fighting a virus, or a failing hard drive.

I'll post a fix protocol for these errors later.

    Here we go
    I've uploaded a file - sgbad.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\sgbad
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\sgbad
    or
    DIR E:\sgbad

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\sgbad <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

The CBS.log file had grown too large to work with. I had to boot into safe mode so that I could rename it and then run sfc again. I hope this file has what you need. Thanks!
