Windows Update stuck forever in "Checking for updates"

    Hi,

I installed win 7 recently and activated it. The updates dont seem to install automatically. I have tried many FixIt and manuall installation past 3 to 4 days, but nothing worked. The maximum I could go was getting "193 updates available" alert. Even if I select one update out of those it just loops forever in checking/searching for updates. I installed Win10 hoping that would resolve it but coudnt activate win due to clean install. So I have now reinstalled win7 but again stuck in same place. I tried installing System Update readiness tool and its running for around 2 hours now. But the CBS log file's last update timestamp seems to have stopped an hour before.

I checked the posting instructions and it says wait for few hours after running SRUT, before posting. I see a dialog box with title "Windows Update standalone installer" and message "Searching for updates on this computer..." . Attached CBS folder. Please advise.

    Regards,
    Shah

    Welcome to our forum shah31.

Yes their is a waiting period for all of Windows 7 Updates in the last few weeks.
Their might be nothing wrong with your computer.
Most people have posted that they have waited from 5 hours to 24 hours for the downloads from Microsoft.

I know of no cure to this slowness. What I do is just leave the computer on searching for Windows Updates and just wait.

Hopefully when they get done with all this free W-10 stuff updates will go back to normal.

Completing this tutorial could be helpful to our expert. Noel is our expert he is always very busy.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810 should speed things up. After installing this it took only a few minutes to scan for updates on a fresh Win7 SP1 install.
