Windows Update settings won't stay uncheck.

    Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\Change settings

    Important updates
[check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them]

Microsoft Update & Software notifications will not stay unchecked.

I unchecked them & re-open Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\Change settings the checkmark returns. Any fix?

I got that problem too when running a third party windows update program that can supposedly block Windows 10 upgrade updates. I couldn't get it to work but I do have real time registry monitoring and it added the following:

    Registry Key hkey_local_machine\software\policies\microsoft\windows\windowsupdate
    Subkey AU has been added

Try setting the value to 5 if it is set to something different. Log off/ on or a reboot may be required.

Note the current settings so that you can reverse the changes!
