If you look at the log winwsxs issues are fixed. sfc detect 1, fixed. SURT corruption 2.

SUMMARY: Some corruptions could not be fixed automatically.

CBS & SFC total fixed corruption count: 1
SURT total detected corruption count: 2
SURT total unimportant corruption count: 0

Please run SURT tool, which takes a little while to complete and post CheckSUR.log located: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
Will indicate missing or corrupt Packages or Manifests, etc.

As you can see we're down to one file now. I'll see if I have it, if not you'll have to shout at NoelDP, he's the expert here.

    Here's relevant part of log:

    Checking Component Store
    (f) CSI Payload File Missing 0x00000000 aspnetca.exe wow64_microsoft-windows-iis-sharedlibraries_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_79642285ffd2a388

    Summary:
    Seconds executed: 10824
    Found 1 errors
CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 1

From my research on your issue, if the CheckSUR.log comes back clean, then a Repair Install (excellent tutorial by Brink) is the only option. Repair install is piece of cake, do them all the time.

If you don't have a Win7 installation disc, and or your product key handy, I can provide you with link to M$ download and VB script to display your installed key. However it goes, your issue will be resolved.

Download Files.zip, extract Files folder to desktop. To alleviate issue with not sure if I places folder in right place, download and run SFCFix.exe by Niemiro. It will find those file and install them in the correct location. Run SFCFix.exe again. If it comes back no errors, try windows update manually again, if you get the same error code, (hope not) I would recommend repair install.

If you have win7 installation disc, you can insert it, run SFCFix.exe and it will automatically find and replace the missing files, provided the missing files/folders are in the winsxs folder.

Post back with results & what you would like to do.

So I downloaded your Files.zip to my desktop, extracted the sub-folder, and ran SFCfix again. It ran for a few seconds then gave me basically the same message of being unable to fix the single corrupted file in SURT. I tried manually running Windows Update again but I'm still getting the same error code.

Open the files folder & open the folder inside wow64_microsoft-windows-iis-sharedlibraries_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_79642285ffd2a388 and see if it has aspnetca.exe still in it. It shouldn't.

If it does copy & paste wow64 folder to your desktop and rerun SFCFix.exe. Log that opens should have verbiage similar to successfully toook ownership of wow64... successfully copies file aspnetca.exe..., successfully restored ownership wow64... & files aspnetca.exe should be missing.

If still not, & it shouldn't, download attachment, don't rename it, drag & drop it on SFCFix.exe. CMD window will include POWERCOPY line plus verbiage above.

If you still get same error code, & you probably will, I suggest repair install as above.

Just in case, here's link to Microsoft Download Center

Run VB script attached to obtain installed Microsoft Key. You'll need it to download ISO

Make sure you copy it exactly (I usually copy 5 characters, skip line, copy 5 characters, etc. & double/triple check key.

Oops, my bad on the instructions I gave you regarding the Files folder on the desktop. I played around a little with SFCFix.exe and I blew the folder name, not my first mistake, & won't be my last. The folder named Files should have been named winsxs. The amd64 folder placed on the desktop works as well.
The drag & drop method I'm sure works.
Such is life, we learn by mistakes.
(I must have learned a great deal during my 62 years on earth because I have made many).

So I did everything you said and still got the same results. It keeps saying the aspnetca.exe is missing, but I've check all folders and it is in the correct location. I tried using SFCfix to correct it, and I even tried manually replacing the files (all backed up of course), but no sign of change. I posted both the logs below, but it seems nothing is changing. I think I'm going to attempt a repair install. It seems like we are running into a brick wall here.

Did you drag & drop SFCFix.zip on SFCFix.exe

If you reverse it nothing happens a zip (compressed file/folder cannot .exe (execute) an executable (exe) program.

What drag & drop zip on exe does is SFCFix.exe executes POWERCOPY command and copies the contents of the zip into winsxs folder

Take at look at SFCFix.exe file attached.

    I dragged & dropped SFCFix.zip on SFCFix.exe

That's what SFCFix.txt should look like after you do.

I sent you the entire folder, not just the folder with aspnetca.exe in it. That's why so many entries.

On your error code, M$ recommends repair install.

I think after all is said & done, you'll still have same error code.

We'll give er one more try

    open attached to desktop

place Manifests folder in C:\Windows \temp\CheckSUR\

If CheckSUR doesn't exist create it: place Manifests folder in it

    Run SURT again, post CheckSUR.log.

I sometimes feel like I'm stuck on STUPID.
