    Windows update site security certificate

    Hi everyone

Im having some difficulty with a laptop.

It won't update because of error 80072EE2

If I use IE8 and try to go to the windows update site it tells me there is a problem with the security certificate.

I'm guessing this is my problem?

    What do you think?

Hi InHem & welcome to sevenforums.

    I'll try to help you.

    To request a new certificate

    1. Open Certificate Manager by clicking the Start button , typing certmgr.msc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. Click the Personal folder.
    3. Click the Action menu, point to All Tasks, and then click Request New Certificate.
    4. Follow the steps in the wizard.

    Notes

    • You cannot request a certificate for a service.
    • To request a Digital Signature Standard (DSS) certificate from a certification authority, you must select the User Signature Only certificate template in the Certificate Request Wizard.

    To renew a certificate

    1. Open Certificate Manager by clicking the Start button , typing certmgr.msc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. Click the certificate you want to renew.
    3. Click the Action menu, point to All Tasks, and then do one of the following:
      • Click Renew Certificate with New Key.
      • Point to Advanced Operations, and then click Renew this certificate with the same key.

    4. Complete the wizard to renew the certificate.

That error message - 80072EE2 - actually translates as...
    INTERNET_TIMEOUT
and has nothing to do with certificates. It simply means that the client was unable to establish a stable connection to the server.
Usually, this is a transient error.
Sometimes it can be caused by problems with proxy servers.

    Please post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
