Clean Install Of Windows 7 Stuck on Searching For Updates

I'm after doing a fresh install of 7 on a friends Samsung laptop and it will not update, it has kept searching for updates for 2 days, I've tried Microsoft fix it, I've stopped it through command prompt and restarted Windows update and it still won't update. I'm kinda stuck at the moment. Any ideas?

Hi thermorus & welcome to sevenforums.

Did you let it run for 2 days straight?

Windows 7 updates are taking forever, 24-48 hours on fresh or repair installs. When the updates finally appear you'll have 200 & 13 optional, at least on wn7 x64 Home Premium.

Set Power Options to Sleep Never & let it run, it should complete unless you receive an error code.

If you received an error code, please follow: Windows Update Posting Instructions

You can run the attachment, it will locate the logs and copy them to your desktop.

If they are over 8m you have to compress them, then attach.

To compress, right-click file/folder, choose Compress or similar verbiage.

No problem. I enjoy helping others (or in some cases trying to)

That didn't work unfortunately, so I rang my friend and suggested an upgrade to 10 and that's what I did and it's working very well now. The thing is, is Microsoft delaying updates or making it difficult to obtain updates on a fresh install of 7 so to make people upgrade to 10 where there was no issues obtaining updates as they happen nearly straight away, just a thought.

Not sure why it didn't work for you - does the job for me, though I inject the updates into install wim before applying the image. Perhaps that makes a difference.

There does seem an issue updating a fresh install - there are frequent reports of problems. Not clear if it is deliberate, or if MS just can't be bothered fixing the issue because it encourages people onto their latest offering.

    You have fallen for it.

Read article by Microsoft, they issued a patch recently for the update issue, as well as high CPU usage.
