Windows 7 cannot upgrade to Windows 10 nor install updates.

    Windows 7 cannot upgrade to Windows 10 nor install updates.


    My system seems to be damage in some way, and I am no longer able to install updates and when I tried to go to Windows 10, that did not work either. I can not download SURT, so I do not have a SURT log, but I have the CBS.log file from the last sfc/scannow.

    It seems that something is amiss, but I can't pinpoint it in the log.

    I have also tried to use the original disks to repair the Windows 7, but that too fails, as it seems to be using the same things as the Windows 10 upgrade does.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi DeerfieldDRB & welcome to sevenforums.

    I'll try to help you.

    What error message did you receive with failed SURT download?

    You can try the following, running SFCFix.exe with win7 disc inserted, it will locate missing files & replace them (provided they are on the disk, many updates are not)

    If it finds & fixes many issues, you may then be able to download & run SURT

    If you have Windows 7 x64 installation disk, insert it.
    Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save this to your Desktop
    run it & follow instructions. Please post log SFCFix.txt.

    If you can't, or don't have disc let me know.

    Try running chkdsk /R

    In search box type cmd. when it appears right-click, choose>run as administrator.

    Open command prompt as administrator. Copy and paste code. press enter. You will be prompted to restart, do so.

    Please post log: Open Event viewer--->Application--->Source--->Winlogon

    Find log with current date.

    Well, SFCFix.exe repaired many corrupt files, big issue here though:

    SURT total detected corruption count: 35821

    Obviously, far to many files to send you. I'd be here for weeks, if not more.

    With all the corrupt files, I would recommend Repair Install

    I do them all the time, pretty simple.

    Do you have your 25 character Windows product key?

    Might want to check for virus/malware infections at this point.

    List of excellent scanners, for virus, rootkit, adware, nagware, pups, (free) I like free!

    Malwarebytes

    ADWCleaner

    SuperAntiSpyware

    HitmanPro choose x64 version

    Rootkit Tool

    TDSS Killer

    Run all of them in their default settings, delete everything they find & post your results.

    Anti-virus is all clean, tried to do repair installation with OEM disks .... got

    Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070241
