Windows 7 Professional keeps on wanting to download updates

I have already installed Windows 7 Professional with service pack 1 so I really would like to know as regards to Windows 7 Professional as to why it keeps on wanting to download up dates of some 460 MB in that being a total of 176 updates and then seemly getting stuck on the 140th update in it’s downloading which has already gone on for hours downloading at that one point alone.

Seeing that something is wrong here I then close down the internet connection one also closes down the computer by clicking on the closed down icon at which point it now wants to install 140 updates out of 176 so one lets it run it course and hours now pass and it seem to be doing nothing and time still passing some 3 hours and still the computer has not closed down and it seemly stuck in a loop so one forces a close a down by holding down the power button until is switch the system down and off.

When one re boots the system up again it still wants to install these updates so you let it do it thing and after about 30 minutes it will come to the windows welcome screen where one has to put one password in and then it still continues to instill updates and after about 20 minutes it finally bring the system on line.

All seem well for the next few days.

BUT here we go again in that after a few days it wants to now uninstall these up date and roll back the system.
Then after the system has re booted a few times all seem well once again

And then a few days after that you got it now it wants to download 460 MB of 176 updates and it all starts all over again …back into the twilight zone we go.

As this is about the 6 or 7 time just about in a row it has done this stunt so can any one shed some light on this as to why it is doing this at all as it driving me nuts and I am ready to revert back to Windows XP Professional at lest that system update are over.

My system is a HP Compaq 6710b laptop 32 bit with 2GB of Ram and the sects are stock standard as revised by HP Computers.

Even after SP1 is installed there are a minimum of 200 updates.
Unfortunately doing it at this time is unfortunate as you are also hitting all the W10 downloads.
You will just have to persivere and let it run over-night.

Thank you for your idea and feed back which I will setup the laptop to do this today and give it 24hrs so that it can get these downloads and get pasted this updates issue.

As to why it did this before and than a few day latter it rolled back the system to a previous state "saying your system did not support all these updates" I will never know as it sure seems a wast of time in it having downloaded updates in the first place and then rolls the system back that just odd.

But to take up to 24hrs to download and install update sound like a very long time to me I would ask is there any way one can get a CD of update from Microsoft to install them off line?

You could try the updates in smaller groups...
Advice please on best way to install updates for Windows 7

PART TWO

On getting some good advice concerning as to why Windows 7 Professional keeps on wanting to download up dates of some 460 MB in that being a total of 176 updates was a question I asked.

I was advised that perhaps the best way to deal with all this is to leave the machine on for 24hrs and let it do it thing.

Well I did and here are the following results:

1) The machine is still going some 35 hrs latter and it still is saying it is downloading update!
2) And no it has not reset it self or rebooted to install any up dates it just keeps stating that it is downloading update!

So what is wrong with this picture and why is the silly thing keep on wanting to download updates.

3) I have manual cut the internet connection and I have also manual reset the computer through the shut down icon.
4) Now on I rebooting the system it wants to install 140 updates out of 176 downloaded updates.
5) Now after some 26hrs of doing that it still has not reset the computer and it still now saying that it is still installing the updates.
6) So far the computer been on 61hrs and it still not finished yet.

So one then closes down the system once again and dose a second master reboot where by one get the same massage on boot up screen that it wants to install updates so you let it do it thing again and this time it dose come up with the login screen and there by after it still goes onto install what ever updates it is doing.

Finally you get to the windows system screen and in looking around every thing all seems to work.
So after a while you close off the computer and go for a cup of tea and wonder as to why all this is going on with this silly Windows 7 machine.

On re booting the computer up you go through all the normal boot up with out any problems.

Then about the 3rd or 4th day we get a message from the system stating that “the systems is rolling back your update as they are not compatible with your system” as this is working in the background after which it ask you to reboot your system.

Where by you let is do so and after it reboots your system up every thing looks and works normally once again.

But here is the kicker now after all what done it states in that about 3 weeks latter one gets a message pop up “installing updates” and when one looks you find it had download a heap of update in the log and when you look at them there we have the same 140 updates out of 176 downloaded updates.

Just one last thing about all this it has now come up in offering me to download and install Windows 10.

The whole thing starts all over again …. Life in the twilight zone.

As I see it, you can:

1) Format the drive and start over.

2) Try and fix the current installation.

For option 2, Windows Update - Reset

For option 1:
After formatting the drive...
...install W7 & SP1
...manually install KB3102810 (see here)
...set the computer not to sleep
...manually start the search for updates
...wait 24+ hours for the list of updates to come in.

Once you get that list, it is your call:
a) Manually select which updates to install.
b) Or let Windows handle it all.
