    Windows not genuine - may be victim of software counterfeiting.

    Hi,
    I currently have Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and it suddenly deactivated i have scanned for viruses and i am all clean. :)

    I have recently started getting the "Windows Not Genuine" error and when I login into my account. Then soon later a message popup says "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting". What does this mean and how can i fix this error.

    This version of windows came with the laptop and it is a genuine, legitimate copy of windows.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Do you have a restorable OS partition backup or two -- dated before this apparently happened? That might be the last resort.
    Meanwhile, lemmie see if I can find the advice given by one of the best make-Windows-genuine-again gurus, somewhere saved on my d-partition.

    NOTE: This batchfile may or may not help; it may or may not address what is actually going on within your Windows; however, I don't see any harm in trying it.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    echo NoelDP/w7f & beroldb/w7f [ousting 3004394 & 971033]

    sc create sppsvc binPath= %SystemRoot%\System32\sppsvc.exe DisplayName= "Software Protection" depend= Rpcss start= delayed-auto obj= "NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService" password= ""

    This batchfile helped NoelDP and others see a little bit more of what was under the Windows hood.

    What motherboard does your system have?

    Is this a Dell laptop computer?

    The usual problem here is that the OP has reinstalled the OS using retail media - and the OEM_SLP Key.

    The solution - assuming that the COA Sticker on the case is for Windows 7 Home Premium - is to change the Key to the one on the COA sticker.
    You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

    You may need to activate by phone.

    NoelDP,
    i used this vbs code to get my product key i entered the key but it did not work . I was thinking of using KMS to activate windows to see if that would work but i have not tried it because this is a genuine copy of windows i don't want to make the problem bad.

    The COA Sticker is still on the case should i try that key?

    Code:
    Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    MsgBox ConvertToKey(WshShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DigitalProductId"))

    Function ConvertToKey(Key)
    Const KeyOffset = 52
    i = 28
    Chars = "BCDFGHJKMPQRTVWXY2346789"
    Do
    Cur = 0
    x = 14
    Do
    Cur = Cur * 256
    Cur = Key(x + KeyOffset) + Cur
    Key(x + KeyOffset) = (Cur \ 24) And 255
    Cur = Cur Mod 24
    x = x -1
    Loop While x >= 0
    i = i -1
    KeyOutput = Mid(Chars, Cur + 1, 1) & KeyOutput
    If (((29 - i) Mod 6) = 0) And (i <> -1) Then
    i = i -1
    KeyOutput = "-" & KeyOutput
    End If
    Loop While i >= 0
    ConvertToKey = KeyOutput
    End Function
