Windows 7: Strange behavior with driver update settings

Strange behavior with driver update settings

So I have a weird behavior and I cannot find what the cause would be. I have several computers and I am getting an optional update whereas I think I should not be getting based on my settings.

Computer A - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - GTX260 - no update
Computer B - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - GTX780Ti - optional update
Computer C - Windows 7 Home 64-bit - GTX430 - optional update
Computer D - Windows 7 Home 64-bit - GTX430 - optional update
Computer E - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - GTX675M - no update

The update is to the Nvidia drivers where I do not update to current via the Windows update nor do I update to the current via the Nvidia website since the latest drivers are causing issues.

My understanding is that in order for Windows 7 not to look for driver updates you need to go to:
Start > Devices and Printers > right click on your computer, select Device installation settings and then set the following;
* No, let me choose what to do
* bubble in Never install driver software from Windows Update

All the above systems are setup this way. So I am not sure why some systems are showing up as an optional update while others are not. I know that the Nvidia drivers are not current.

So am I missing some other setting that is causing this?

Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi Air,

uh I do not know if this is a permanent fix but you could go into Windows Update and right click the update and select "Hide this update", note there will be the UAC shield next to the option so be prepared with the Admin password.

Strange update behavior?
Hello. I always have my Windows Update set to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them." As far as I can tell, I have successfully avoided all of the Windows 10 Upgrade nonsense by avoiding all of the related updates. This morning my wireless keyboard wasn't...

Strange Win7 Behavior updating to any GeForce Driver newer than 301.42
So I am anticipating upgrading to Windows 8 so started doing some research on compatible hardware and drivers. I discover I am a few versions back on my video card drivers. I have a PNY GeForce 680. I decide to update to the latest WHQL driver which is also compatible with Windows 8 64Bit. After...

Strange FLAC behavior
I've installed FLAC on Win 7 smoothly. But it will decode files, and not encode files. Tried many tricks - register MSCOMCTL.OCX, reinstall, newer version, to no avail. During encoding there is a glimpse of a command window, and that's all. In Win XP it was OK. The FLAC codec is a...

Strange fan behavior
Hi! Why is the fan (only one fan in this crappy HP pavilion dv6835eo notebook) running at almost max rpm for at least five minutes during and after logon, but not otherwise? If i check the temps with HWMonitor 64 they are low, that is, under 40 degrees celcius so the fan should not be running as...
