Win7 failing to update at all.

Hello, I just recently bought a new PC and everytime I try to install windows updates on it, it stays at checking for updates. I installed win7 the first time, and then registered my activation key and then tried to update the updates, but it did not work. I tried again a second time with a clean install of win7 and activation and again it did not work. So I once again tried a clean install but this time I didnt activate my win7 registration key and it actually let me download some updates. Once I had downloaded them all I registered my windows again. Today however I try to install updates and again it just stays at checking for updates. Is my key faulty? is it my PC? I have googled and tried various things but I am having no luck with this at all.

check your date and time in your BIOS and your windows date and time. It's crucial this the time is accurate and of course, check web connectivity. Make sure you can load webpages and stuff and no access is being blocked to microsoft servers.

Its taking ages for updates currently, youve got nothing to lose by letting it run overnight.

If you want to check the validity of your OS,
run this Mxdiag from this forum link

When installing Win 7, you have 30 days to activate the OS. I don't put mine in until I know things are OK. It is not a problem to wait a couple weeks before doing it. == Your PC will automatically install all updates. You don't have to do that. Just make sure in the Control Panel you have it set to do it automatically. If not sure how yours is set, follow this tutorial. Windows Update Settings - Change

Thank you for the replies :) my bios time and Windows time are both correct. I am just about to go to bed and I will leave my pc on over night to see if it ever moves from searching for updates. I will report back tomorrow.

searching for updates DOES take a long time. Do you even have service pack 1 at least?
