Downloading 10 instead of 100 updates should be faster.

Im not sure its the downloading of the updates that is slow but more the checking then installing of them,as I previously mentioned it took the same time to install one update manually as it did to do ten selected updates using windows update.

I notice after a windows updates repair or a complete reset and re-install of windows updates client/ agent then it's best to wait 24 hours before running an update check and then only after re-configuring WU settings. The first check might take hours as the system is scanned for installed updates and missing updates but after that the daily update check typically last less than one minute.

I don't know if this is deliberate or just the fact that Windows 10 adds a lot of stress to their servers...

However I noticed on many occasions that even just downloading ONE update, and when you watch your modem as it tries to download it appears that MS servers will shut down (you'll get a red internet light)
to stop the progress of the update and then after a minute the server appears to turn on again (green internet light) I noticed this because when downloading other updates for say Opera, Flash, Reader, ect those have been fairly large, they download consistently and constantly, ONLY the WU servers appear to shut down and block me. My internet service is fine, and I have experienced this on TWO different PCs with 7 (not networked) both are free of any malware, and are stable, one is a recent fresh download the other is from a year ago.

As I have so many updates to install I thought I would conduct a small test to see what is happening during the update process.
I downloaded one update from the Microsoft store and ran it,i got a message my system was being scanned for current installed updates, this scan took two and a half hours before it installed and was ready to restart.

Last night I selected ten small security updates and began the download and install at 00.55,these installed at 03.02,luckily I was at the laptop when the screen changed from 0 kb total,0% downloaded to installing updates, the install took two minutes and the system was ready to restart.

The laptop is connected via lan cable so in theory the download of ten small updates would be quick,i watched the ten updates install in two minutes so what is happening in the (roughly) two hours between download and install,is it scanning for already installed updates ?,but as the updates are being offered by the windows update service surely it already knows I don't have these updates installed.

I recently had a related problem ( refer to All Updates D/L & Install Success! However ... /post#8 & 9). I also noticed, FOR THE FIRST TIME since 2009, a definite increase in download/install times. Actually, the d/l & installs went rather quickly. It was whatever the machine was doing when it was reporting the "0 % d/l" message that took all the time. However, I did not experience the degree of time being reported here, 45 minutes max in my case.
