Can't find updates for Window 7 Pro (64bit) - search not finishing

I am trying the install window update but the update not finishing. It goes searching for the update but does not come back with recommendations!
the machine does not have a single application installed yet, except for Norton.

    This machine has:
    new fully formated hard drive
New Window 7 Pro 64 bit install

    HW consist of:
    HD: 320 GB
mother board: Asus M2NPV-VM, CPU Athklon 62 x2 Dual core 64000+, 2.4 Ghz
    Memory: 4GB

I tired to follow this recommendations in: Windows update never finished

But that did not help. I appreciate your guidance and suggestion.

Man, I should have come here first. I had the exact same problem when I tried using the ISO file or using the option to leave it connected to the internet and it would download updated installation files.

I must have reinstalled Win7 at least 10 times before I finally tried the 'old' way: Installation disk, unplug the internet, then go through the long painful update process. This was actually working until after SP1, then it said it had to install some special updater. That's when it went back to not installing any updates.

I did find the "windows updater troubleshooter" and it fixed some, but not all the problems.

    Hello,

Trashzone...thanks for the suggestion followed the steps.

St8kout...thanks for the suggestion followed the steps.

I tried both options and neither one worked! the system has been up for 15 min in state "Checking for Updates"

By the way Window 7 Pro 64 bit was downloaded as ISO file, then converted to boot up disk via other system. then did the fresh/new install on fully formatted HD.

    any suggestions?

You need to be patient, many folks have experienced WU searching for over two hours before any results are found, give it a couple of hours, if it doesn't find anything after three hours something is really wrong.

    Hi,
You might expedite it a bit more by using the net framework 4.5.2 offline installer
