    Does Windows 7 receive forced updates?


    I am about to buy a new laptop with Windows 7 Pro (via downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro). I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into, since I've heard Microsoft is forcing updates and some of those updates are bricking people's computers.

    Does Windows 7 receive forced updates the same way Windows 10 gets them, or can you choose to ignore updates in Windows 7?

    I also heard that Windows 10 is a recommended update for Windows 7, but hopefully they never turn that into a forced update.

    Windows 7 doesn't force updates like W-10 does.
    In Windows 7 when a update is offered you can choose to install it or hide it.
    Many time a update that is hidden will be offered again. I just hide them again if I don't want them.
    Microsoft is continuing to try to get Windows 7 users to Upgrade/Downgrade to W-10.

    I do not use auto update. If you do the unwanted updates will be installed.

    I have my update setting like this.
    Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install.
