Windows 8.1 update promting to intstall Windows 10 - How to get rid

My windows 8.1 PC on is showing a Windows 10 upgrade ready to install. I don't really want Windows 10, happy with Windows 8.1. Is there away I can rid of this install request? So, far have set the later date to the future (only until Tuesday). I have uninstalled the update manually from 'Program and Features' and have even tried in the Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx and created a new 32-bit DWORD value on the right-hand side named DisableGwx, and gave it a value of 1.

I still wish to receive updates and everything, just don't want Windows 10 without well really wanting or needing it, quite annoying of Microsoft to do this, I had previously declined a the pop-up in the Taskbar already a number of times. Thanks.

Thanks for the post, I think I remember already trying that but still done it again and it still says 'Update' on 'Shutdown'. I've already postponed the 'update' so to speak, to the 15/03 - just to get rid of the Windows 10 prompt. Dreading booting up on the 15/03 and seeing a Windows 10 install happening. There must a complete way to get rid of it, it would be a nightmare to remember to uninstall that update, which by the way, I only got rid of on Friday so if your not careful Windows 10 can just appear without you wanting it. Going to keep this thread open, hoping someone can give a solution as that link showed there's a few people not to happy with this forced updated from MS

As you have had no luck so far, why not just let the install continue and when the EULA comes up, decline it. The install will then return you to W8.

Think I'm going to try that and another option for I've done is changed the settings for Windows Updates from "Install updates automatically" to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"; I will let you know how get on.

That's the setting I chose and that has worked well up to now.

whs - So far seems to be working that and hiding any Windows 10 update. If does appear, a quick google for the KB number; then hiding it. Think I will close this thread now, thanks.
