Windows Not Genuine; sppscv will not start (error 2, file not found)
I've been working on this for days and I'm going insane.
A couple weeks ago, Microsoft began telling me that my copy of Windows isn't genuine. It is—came with my computer, in fact. Microsoft tech support couldn't/didn't help. The registry entry for sppsvc seems intact, and it's set to auto-start, but whenever I try to start it, I get this:
SCF can't find anything wrong with the files, and the diagnostic report doesn't say anything about sppsvc being tampered with. It's been getting worse every day, more pop-ups, etc., but today my desktop background turned black (an associated issue, I've heard) and I think I'm going to lose my mind. Please help.
