    Checking for updates and installing on shutdown

    Hi guys, new here.

    I work in a call center where our windows updates is managed by WSUS and we are trying to think of a way to manage the updates as efficiently as possible but as some of the PC's don't have WOL capabilities it becomes difficult to automate.

    We don't want to let windows update check during calling as WU uses a lot of the system resources and we want to avoid any manual processes if necessary as there are over 100 machines on the call floor.

    Is there a way to set each machine to check for updates and install any important ones when the PC is being shutdown either via group policy or a form of script?

    If you require more information please let me know.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Jason

    Hi Xeon,
    This seems to fit like a glove

    Hi Roy,

    Thanks for the link but unfortunately it doesn't really answer anything in regards to checking on shutdown.

    As mentioned in the original post we cant have windows update checking during the day as it affects the CPU performance.

    Do you know of any powershell scripts or applications that can be triggered when a PC is shut down?

    For reference, I found a way to do it by running the following command in a batch file that is run from the local group policy:

    wuauclt /detectnow /updatenow && shutdown /s /t 0

    This will check and update the machine if needed.
