Why does W Update run slower than molasses?

Windows Update never used to run like this, but now it runs horribly slow. It takes at least 30 minutes just to "Check for updates", then it takes anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to download and install a mere 3 or 4 updates, but it averages about an hour for just 3-4 updates.
It does this on my desktop and laptop both. Both these computers run great, but updates are horrible to do.
Both computers run W7, and they have the latest .Net Framework updates as well as the most recent update client KB3138612.

A lot of W7 users are experiencing long Windows updates and it has to do with the Microsoft servers. There are some changes to how Windows will do their updates this month which might eliminate this issue. Just have to wait and see.

    Thanks Thrash.

OK Thrash, "Windows Installer" was set to Manual, so I changed it to Automatic. Everything else was already on Automatic. Thanks for the pointer, we'll see if it helps.
