Thanks, me too I mostly remain positive. But I mess up when I think a lot.

Well our plan #1 failed, as Check for updates, is stuck on the 1st check.

Now reverting to old plan, starting with All important in one go after the 2 manual ones.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,
Hope you made a system image first

Should eventually came up with these updates
Simplifying updates for Windows 7 and 8.1

I might have tried installing Net 4.5.2 and the latest update client before giving up on it
With the update setting set at Never check for updates first

    Hi,

No I didn't create a system image, cause was and am sure that would have worked.... No worries.

Again clean installed W7 SP1, manually installed 2 updates, activated and 1st check for updates revealed in 3 mins, 167 important available, size approx 460 MB.

    Here have paused...

What ideally should be my next move in your expert opinion.

    1. Create image?

    2. Install all in one go OR from bottom in batches?

    3. Just a thought, since my laptop is ancient with only 4 gigs of memory, should unrequred services for me like Offline pages, Print spooler be disabled to decrease load?

    4. To which service, is drive indexing linked?

    5. I shall wait till, I hear from you.

    6. Didn't really understand the links...

    7. 2 clean installs in 24 hrs ....

    Hoping to hear from you.

    Best regards.
