Problems with windows update after factory reset

I am running an HP desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My machine was used by someone else and came back flooded w viruses. It didnt come with a backup disc and I have my personal stuff backed up on micro sd with adapters so I did a factory reset and all went well except now windows update wont work. I let it run for 24 hours did another factory reset and went straight to windows update. Still wont work. Anyone know a way around this?

I should note I went to windows update problems and it wont let me download the SURT tool. Also windows update is not giving me any errors. It looks fine but it just sits there like its trying to find updates and says last time updated never. Never had this happen.

    Hi ibenomadic,

I had been reinstall my 2 laptops several times without any issue.
Although both do not have recovery disc, but i did bought it from the Manufacturer Service center.
Using the disc, i have no issues from installation to windows updates.
    Everything work accordingly.
Even i had did re-install Retail Windows version, without any problems.

Why you need this SURT tool, as you are not upgrading Windows.
I never use anything or download any program at all.

After you completed installed, do a couple of shutdown to see any problem.
Finally, go to -> Start -> All Programs -> click on Windows Update.
Windows Update will take plenty of times.

It is best to keep an eye on the installation and updating.
Windows Updates will auto reboot several times.
The process can be interrupt by manual shutdown after Windows Updates reboot.
In this way, you can come back to continue, by going to Windows Updates.

    Regards,
    Eric.
