Updates from 2011 showing up out of nowhere

I was fully updated but today when I checked for updates after a week or so (which I always do manually), updates KB973688 and KB954430 are showing up.

Last time I checked there was nothing available, I've not installed anything since then, and now I get important updates from the beginning of time? How is this possible?

    Hi Sarah,
both of those KB's relate to MS XML, have you just installed a new prog, possibly relating to a Hotmail document.

You should have in excess of 200 updates on your comp.

    Hi Roy, thanks for replying.
Do you mean to say MS XML doesn't come with Windows 7 and a piece of software could have installed it, and now it requires an update?
All I've installed recently besides some games from Steam is something I used to upgrade a mobile phone OS.

    Hi Sarah,
They were actually fixing a Major problem, MS XML needed to introduce a change to overcome a Java script problem.

Its more than likely the Phone OS, pretty sure they use java script in it.

If you look up the 1st KB you mentioned it has far more detail.

    Roy.

    200+ updates?

So again, you mean the Phone updater most likely installed MS XML into my windows system?
If so, why do you think it doesn't it appear on my list of installed programs?

According to "Programs and Features > Installed Updates" I have 355 currently. And I've not installed those 2 yet, because when I see something anomalous I try to wait before acting, in case someone made a mistake.

    Hi Sarah,
    NO your fine,
MS recognised the fact that you needed those updates, or Steam/Apple, and did the work for you,(didn't on original release).
It wont appear in programs , as its part of MSXML, it just upgraded from V4 to V6.

Mobile phones use scripts most of the time, comps dont.
