Windows 7 Activation problem after reinstall

    Hi All.

Would sure appreciate some help on this one. I offered to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate for a friend of mine. I had to extract the product key from the Win 7 installation registry before formatting.

Upon installation and now wanting to activate the following error is reported.

"The Windows 7 Ultimate Product Key you typed is invalid for activation"

Microsoft support has already confirmed that the product key that I gave them over the phone is a valid Win 7 Ultimate Product Key but that it is invalid for activation of which they cannot tell me why.

I have run the MGADiag Tool of which the results I have posted below. Any help offered in understanding where the issue may lie would be most helpful

    With thanks
    Dave.

Indeed you are correct it is an MSI board.

I am little perplexed to read that the key is blacklisted according to Google. Doing my own search is lending me to think that this key was not acquired through a legitimate source unless I am not understanding something correctly.

I am not interested in trying to use something that is not legit.

Its not Blacklisted, but it is a non genuine install, and picked up by MS's WAT.
Thats the Base >> DELL << W7 ultimate key,
There should be a sticker on the comp somewhere, quoting the original OS and version,
No sticker is also an indicater of an non-genuine.
Further there is no SLIC code present which there should be on any OEM computer.

Please post the exact System Specs of the computer you are trying to install Windows 7 on.

What operating system did said computer come with originally?

If that product key is blacklisted I have not been able to find the list.

I do agree with torchwood. What I see in the log the installation appears to be counterfeit.

All OEM/SLP or OEM keys are locked to the computer that it came with and cannot be moved and stay a legal installation without Microsoft's permission.

Just because a product key is proper doesn't mean it proper to install on any or every system.
If one wants the option of installing Windows 7 on various computer one will have to buy a Retail Windows 7. Then it would only be legal to install on one computer at a time.

    Hi All.

Thank you for the help and explanations, I am beginning to have further insight.

Roy you are correct, South Africa is the location.

The system specs are Processor 2.8GHZ, 2GB Ram, 500GB Hardrive (Seagate). MSI Motherboard.

It appears that the computer had Win XP preinstalled according to the sticker on the side. I was quite surprised Win 7 was running on it as there was a significant system spec change on computers running WinXP to Win Vista.

As the machine had Win 7 installed and activated I had presumed that if I had to extract the key from the registry that I would be able to reinstall Win 7 and activate with that key.

It appears that I may have to inform the person of the complications observed and request of him to purchase a copy of Win 10 for installation.

    Many thanks

Another give-away in those specs 2gb ram, no OEM would push Ultimate with less than 3gb.
