    Your product key:

    Windows Product Key: *****-*****-TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV
Is a Default key and will never activate.
I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't inform you of that.

Where did you get the Product Key from?

My HD crashed and I took it into my work IT department and they took a look at it. They ordered and installed a new harddrive and installed Windows on it. I guess they used the key you've asked about.

I have a different product key on the underside of my laptop. Is there a way to change it back without reinstalling Windows?

Is the key on Microsoft sticker on the computer for the exact Windows you have installed?
If so you can give it a try.

Hit the Windows key and the Pause key and you will see this.

    Hi Lucas,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
That Lenovo never came with Ultimate.

Its gonna have to be another reinstall with the correct version, home premium i suspect.
(if they were my IT people i'd be tearing my hair out).

You are also going to have to re-register the lappy as you've changed the hard drive.

The sticker on the underside will tell you which version of windows to use, and the code you will need to re-activate, DO NOT POST IT.

    post back when you've reinstalled.
I'll try and sort it without resorting to MS support.

Thanks for the help Roy. You were correct. I needed to install the correct version which meant having to do a completely new install on the computer after having located the correct iso which was not exactly easy. I did the new install this weekend and was confronted by an BSOD during the install. Researched it and it was from my wireless mouse USB fob being connected. Pulled that out and it worked fine.

From there I then had to install all the drivers where a BIOS update almost killed my computer. Managed to "legacy boot" then proceeded to update to Windows 10. It sat at 99% installation for a couple hours then proceeded to finish the install.

Not exactly a smooth ride but we got there in the end.

    Thanks again for your help.
