Windows Update Checking for Updates... Never Completes

My Win 7 Windows Update never completes when looking for updates. I've let it run for many hours. I've also run two Microsoft FixIt's. No help. I've also run Option Two "Reset and Re-register Windows Update Components" from the thread at Windows Update - Reset

    No help.

    Suggestions?

Had the same problem. This fixed it:

Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary for June 14th 2016

Download standalone installer for the update from Microsoft Update Catalog using Internet Explorer. Stop Windows Update Service. Just stop it - do not disable it.

Run the installer and reboot when done. You should see svchost.exe (netsvcs) and trustedinstllaer.exe running in task manager. Wait for them to do their thing and if you are lucky new updates will appear. At least that's what worked in my case.

Tried for more than 30 hours to resolve problem, even started another installation and nothing... until I found this thread half an hour ago. Yes, that has fixed it for me also. Thank you!

After the check for updates ran for many hours it completed with 46 updates to download and install. That's progress of some kind.

Now it's downloading and, hopefully, installing. I'll find out in the morning.

The 46 updates installed overnight - Yahoo! A subsequent Check for Updates ran normally.

I guess this problem is fixed for me.
