    Windows Update Issues / Stuck at Checking for Updates

    I recently purchased a new Samsung 850 PRO SSD. I did a clean install using the recovery partition from my HP DV7 HDD and then cloned to the SSD.

    The very fist thing I did was Windows Update and it just has the window that says "Checking for Updates Online..." with the bar constantly going.

    I managed to download and install the SURT (KB947821) and that is the only update listed as installed under the Windows Update history.

    SFC Scan passes with no issues.

    On the Windows Update screen, no error codes appear. Just says "Never Checked."

    Error code that I have come across in my CBS log file (multiple instances):
    HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE

    CBS.zip attached

    Ended up downloading WSUS Offline Updater. Ran the updater and it downloaded all the updates. Ran the installer and it froze/hung. I remember reading that it will install IE11 before installing updates but did not do so. So I manually installed IE11 and reran the WSUS Installer and it worked. It installed 130+ updates.

    Restarted computer and just checked to see if Windows Update would work and it did. It immediately found several updates. Currently installing them.

    Maybe Windows Update has an issue if you have an older IE installed? My fresh Windows 7 SP1 had IE9 so who knows.
