Not Genuine error message Win7 Pro Retail

July 21,2015, installed windows 7 professional full retail. Bought new from Ebay seller so at time I ran MGADiag and it was confirmed Genuine.

All was fine until July 2 ( 7:2:2016 17:51 to be exact) when my desktop background went black and MS started popping up the message that my Windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine 0xC004F200.

    1) tried system restore to 6/28/16 - failed 0x80070005. Then system restore to 6/24/16 which succeeded only in removing a silverlight update. I have spent HOURS searching your help site and the internet to no avail.

    2) Found archived tech support on MSN whose p0xC004F200 problem was solved so followed all the steps he was told (except entering the COA # which I seem to have misplaced my orig box)

I cannot find in my update history, the patch from Dec 2014 KB3004394 which apparently caused this, nor do I find the PatchRepair KB3024777 which came out two days later.

    3) Tried downloading KB3024777 directly from MS site but it won't install... no error msg, it just won't do anything after I hit "install" I understand that somehow Windows hides some of their updates so they cannot be found -

4] Went to System properties & entered my Keycode again which directed me to telephone activation, which failed.

Ran two or three more MGAD which interestingly show different results for ID: in that the end # in () is 3 and it was (1) on july 21 2015 and "Build lab" is different than the first time i ran it when it was deemed "genuine" pasted are newest MGAD and just a png snip of the one that verified it as genuine last year(didn't know how nor that I would need to do the "copy" :

    Hello Spoonleg,
You need a dose of KB971033.
Please download and run it directly from MS
then run the Mgadiag again please.

This may not clear another error currently showing in the report.
    I suspect NOT.
Although i cannot find any other indicators, Its possible that the key you have, has been repeatedly sold via auction sites by one seller.
This has caused MS to block it.
I will know more after you reply.

    new MGAD after KB971033

    Thanks Roy,

Had no time to get this done til now. Interestingly, I went into update to check if KB971033 had ever been installed - it had not but there it was, in my update list waiting to be installed.

I wondered about the ID having (1) at the end on my first (2015) MGAD and (3) on yesterday's. Does this mean the guy sold it to two other people after me?

And the "Build Lab" changing from 7600 to 7601, what does that mean?!

sorry, I might have accidentally sent this reply twice. I don't do much messaging or posting.

    Did you change any hardware.
Once there are too many changes on the hardware, this may cause "Windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine"

    Thanks for the input,

No hardware was changed or added. In the week before, RealPlayer insisted a new version be installed (which is now not working). Also, recently the network has been acting strangely: when I would get a system sound for opening a program & similar, the sound was playing on my husbands laptop. This has only been happening for about a month that I've noticed and the network has been set up (2 laptops and a desktop) for the year that I've had this Win7. Yesterday, ran across a fix for the "NOT GENUINE" error, stating
"..... this problem occurs when there is a lack of permissions on a registry key "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20" I hoped that the odd network stuff was sending MS a false indication that we were using this copy on my 3 network computers (which I am NOT- the desktop has Vista and other laptop has Win7 Pro 32 bit) I checked the registry and it appears to be as it should.

First, do uninstall that RealPlayer, as it might be a malware/spyware/virus that ask you to update.

Please most of users here like to make changes in the Registry file.
Do not do this method, and do not compare 1 registry to another registry. No 2 registry are the same.
All the alpha-numeric are codes which best is to leave it.

Even i, using Windows from the period before it was born (Win 3), i avoid tinkering the registry.
Many of the problems is due to careless in playing registry setting, reinstalling OS, install unknown software etc.

Most do not have this in mind, Malware, Spyware, Virus, etc are the main issue, to create chaos.

There is a software in Microsoft website for to check if your key is not genuine.

Something about having genuine Windows OS or not.
This is what i came across on this non genuine Windows.

Some non genuine Windows are not listed in the Microsoft.
Only about when too many users on activation are using exact same key.
This will be highlighted to Microsoft.
Then Microsoft will flag as non genuine.
When a non genuine Windows user &or computer, went to Windows update.
Microsoft will immediate flag that user's computer as non genuine Windows.

This is what i know when i did a test run.
Went to get an non genuine Windows OS, installed and activated without any problems.
Some months later, the Windows will hang on the Windows logo page and said the Windows is non genuine.

You are having a non Genuine Windows OS, when i read your post.

This is why i go to reliable retailer to get software as genuine.

    Hi Spoonleg,
Removing Real Player, will not make any difference at'all.
As i said in my first post >> I suspect NOT <<
Your Mgadiag is clearly showing that MS are deaming your install as non-genuine.
Buying a key from an Ebay site is not recommended, as even if you check the key on purchase it does NOT ensure that it is genuine. Full checking may not occur until 90 Days later.

You mentioned earlier that you attempted phone activation.
Please try it again BUT let it ring until an operater answers, they will go thru the same proceedure
However ask them Directly if the Key has been activated previously, quote your approximate original installation date.
Either way this will confirm your OS status.
It will not hurt if you tell them from who you bought the Key, (especially if its a retailer), they MIGHT feel generous and offer you a new key, (w10!!)

    In regard to your other questions -- 7600 = W7 -- 7601 = W7 service pack 1

    >>>>> BEFORE you do any of the above <<<<

Has your computer recently been infected by Malware ???
If so its possible that this may be the cause
As you have Avast run a pre boot scan.
