Thanks -
I did initially read through this thread but was getting a bit confused about patches & updating a Win 7 disc & using cmd prompts.

Just to clarify, Simplex has all the updates since Win 7 was released? IOW SP1 is not needed? I already have SP1 installed, will this create a problem?

Clicking on the link in posting #10 brings up UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe and itís 850MB. Iím presuming this is a newer version?

Posting #17 mentions a patch & provides links to the UpdatePack and also to the patch.. However both links appears to provide the same UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe. (850MB).

Does that mean the patch is no longer needed?

I donít need to update a Win 7 installation disk at this point because Win 7 and SP1 are already on the new HDD. Do I just click on UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe file to install it? Can it be installed from a DVD or EHD?

Thanks again

From April 2016 to today, many other updates has been released, in monthly packages Rollup and security only updates. To avoid telemetry and unnecessary updates, I have set Services - Windows Update - Manual. On WU page I have set it to Never check and monthly I install the Security ONLY updates. I then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

As an alternative, my suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run UpdatePack7R2
Simplix is a single file (750MB) that contain all updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has all security and non security updates without the trash (telemetry and tracking). Very good.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

To uninstall the telemetry, run cmd file to uninstall those KB files.
kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

Hi,

I have Win 7 Pro 32 bit with SP1 installed. Can I use it, IF yes how?

Thanks.

your contradicting yourself

SP2 requires SP1 ---- IE8 comes prior to SP1 so i have to assume youve NOT got SP1

Updates do NOT require any further IE upgrades
(my mrs lappy only has IE8, turned OFF, still updates)

Yes, it works for both bit versions.

Recommend download the patch also https://update7.simplix.info/UpdatePatch-19.12.19.exe

put the updatepatch next to UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe. Then run the updatepatch and it will create newer UpdatePack7R2-19.12.19.exe

Or wait 10 days for the January version.

1. Have UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15, 850 MB downloaded.

2. Now download the patch from the posted link....correct.

3. Run the patch placed next to UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15, in download folder.

4. Than run the new exe on the live system with windows update turned off and never check for updates in settings.....correct?

Thanks.

Hi,
Should I go ahead and run the patch?

When done run the newly created exe. as Megahertz suggested , stop update service and not to check for updates, on a live system?

Or do I require to place the exe at a specific location?

Thanks.

Edit:
I have approx 80 W7 security updates on this system, and 54 MS off security updates, on the earlier created and now restored backup. Hope they won't conflict.
And the exe. would only install the required, or overwrite all windows security updates?

Run the patch on the same folder you have UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15
It will create UpdatePack7R2-19.12.19

Run the created UpdatePack7R2-19.12.19.exe pack.
It will only install the required updates. It may install in two sections. It will ask to reboot as necessary,
Leave Updates set to never check
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

Do I need to run the patch too?

Should the update service be stopped too?

Thanks for the expert advice.
