Can I still get updates from Windows Update function?

    Hello.

I am posting here, after a very long time. I hope everyone is okay.

The thing is I am going to install a fresh Windows 7 64 bit (Service Pack 1) on my new SSD and I am a little confused. After installation, if I run the Windows 7 Update function, will it work and get me updates?

One more thing is, which updates should I check mark and which ones should I ignore? Is there any list for this?

Please help me out here. I am very much confused. Hoping to get some clear answers soon.

    Thanks in advanced.

Yes. All updates issued up to the end of support will still be available. After end of support there are still new updates for Defender/MSE definitions and the Malicious Software Removal Tool, but no new updates for Win7 itself.

Depends on what (if anything) you are trying to avoid. Some discussion here:

    Which updates to avoid?

While you could use windows update, it is much easier to run simplix update pack. It will reboot a couple of times and cleanup if necessary. It avoids telemetry and other unwanted junk.

    Basically yes.

It will fail to give you KB4490628 due to conflicting prerequisite priorities of Servicing Stack and SHA-2 code signing support.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...server-2008-r2

It will give you KB3138612, just not the minute you need it most (i.e. first thing).

    Microsoft Update Catalog

It will give you KB4474419, but not soon enough to keep any and all updates from failing.

    I agree with post #3.

    1. Do a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

    2. Download and save and then run Simplix Update Pack 20.6.20 (most current version).

    3. Install the necessary drivers(chipset, graphics, audio, ethernet, wireless, etc.).

    4. Activate it on-line.

    Done!
