Windows Update stuck on checking updates (on fresh and clean install)
Basically my old HDD died from bad sectors and I had to format and install Windows 7 Enterprise on a back up hdd that was flooded with useless documents from the past.
Went ahead done what I had to do and left Windows to check for updates, Steam install some games and League of Legends update.
However everything finished but Windows was still checking for updates and I noticed the svchost.exe (netsvcs one) uses about 1.5 GB out of 4 RAM. Immediately knew that this was caused by the Windows Update service that's under it.
However turning Windows Update off is never a smart thing to do and I don't have the kind of time to manually download updates.
I know that it will probably blast me with 200+ updates (has happened in the past but never used up so much RAM and finished way faster than 6 hours with all my usual post installation stuff.
Anyways some info you should probably know:
-I'm using a Wireless adapter (TP-LINK TL-WN722N) and I have read threads here that Windows Update would sometimes fail to do what it should with Wireless adapters, unfortunatelly that isn't an option at the moment.
-Resetting Windows Update manually and through Fix It doesn't work.
So first thing I'm looking at is updating the Windows Update client, please do tell if you think otherwise, or if not link me to the newest Windows update client or probbably any hotfixes that could fix the problem (never done this before and wouldn't want to mess up, so I decided to ask you guys )
Another short question I have:
Does editing the group policy to stop Windows Update from auto restarting after updates still work as before? (I have not done this yet on this computer yet just want to know)
